We are super excited to have Strada Wheels as a sponsor for the Black Mountains 3 Day 2012.  Jonathan from Strada wants to get involved and has offered up some amazing prizes for a bunch of lucky riders at next year’s event.

There is no getting away from it – a good set of hand built wheels is very special and Darren’s (Strada’s wheel builder) meticulous approach, experience and passion for building a good wheel definitely won’t disappoint.  Along with sourcing the most appropriate (light/durable/strong) wheel components, Strada Wheels have a variety of configurations that cover the spectrum of style and price.

The Bearded Man race team (cross and mtb) will be running Strada built wheels and customers who buy complete Van Dessel builds will get the option of wheel builds ranging from the disk cross set up to amazing aero road set ups!  We are so excited about the prospect of working with Jonathan and the rest of the Strada Wheels team in 2012 and beyond.

A bit of information from Strada Wheels:

Strada Hand Built Wheels is here to show the benefits of hand built wheels to cyclists who may not have considered them before. After the frame, the wheel of your bike is the most critical component in how it rides and handles so we consider your weight, height, physique, power, type of bike before selecting a combination rim, hub and spokes to build a wheelset to match you perfectly.

We have stocked ENVE carbon rims, alloy rims from BOR, Stan’s NoTubes, Velocity and our own label light race hubs and famous brands such as American Classic, Carbon-Ti, Tune, PMP and Chris King too. We use DT Swiss and Sapim spokes including the legendary bladed and light CX Ray. We are also building PowerTap hubs for training with data. We are happy to deliver road or MTB wheels throughout UK, Europe / Scandinavia and other destinations on request via TNT.

Visit the website at www.stradawheels.co.uk or call us on +44 (0)1903 750040 to discuss your requirements before you order your new wheels.

At BM3D 2011 we had a few bikes stolen!  In 2012 we are going to be MUCH better prepared and we will be encouraging riders to be extra vigilant in protecting their possessions.  In steps Greg from BikeParka – whilst the BikeParka is not a standalone security measure, it will definitely provide a level of frustration to any thief trying to ‘cherry pick’ your bike from the group.  Greg will be providing a bunch of BikeParka’s up as prizes at the 2012 BM3D – so if you are lucky enough to get your hands on one be sure to use it.  If you don’t win a BikeParka, you can always buy one at the event as Greg will be there will a little stall.

The bikeParka comes in a handy ‘Stuff Sac’ (as seen below) that fits easily into the cyclist’s day pack; or it can be supplied in a more sophisticated ‘ProMesh Stuff Sac’ that attaches to the bike frame. The Stuff Sac measures a mere 20cm x 12cm, for convenient carriage.

To ensure that the bikeParka fits snugly on most bikes, it is toggle-adjustable. The cover can be tweaked to suit any seat and handle bar height; it also has bottom eyelets, as well as an elasticated bottom for a close fit around the wheels.

Do check out the BikeParka website for more details and if you can’t wait then buy one online NOW.  Also check out this review from Daily Cycle

BM3D dates have been confirmed as 29 June – 1 July 2012.

The experience will remain the same with the Friday night starting with a time trial, followed by 2 days of natural trail riding.  Spaces are limited again so expect the same intimacy of 2011 and the same tented village services (hot showers/fully catered/masseurs on hand/mechanics on hand/etc.)

The cost for 2012 is £180 all inclusive including VAT.  Registration will be open on or before the 10 November 2o11, so keep your eyes peeled on www.blackmountains3day.co.uk.

We have already had support from most of last years sponsors so a huge thanks to Singular Cycles, TORQ Fitness, Novik Gloves and Saddle Skadaddle.  More news on sponsors to follow, but expect to see a great prize pot in 2012.

We hope to welcome back some of the 2011 riding field and of course we hope to see some new faces.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to drop us an email – info@beardedman.co.uk

The Bearded Man Team

Bearded Man are delighted to be co-sponsoring the Look Mum No Hands national cyclocross team.  The London based team will focus on the London/SE Mosquito league between the national races all over the UK.

At this stage the team consists of 3 riders, namely Jo, Nik and Jeremy – all will be riding Van Dessel frames with Ultegra groupsets and Easton wheelsets.  We are also delighted that the Look Mum No Hands Road Team will be giving the Van Dessel bikes a run at some of the local races – so the framesets will be tested by lots of people!

Lots more racing to come and we are so looking forward to supporting a great little team with the Look Mum No Hands crew.  Injury (broken bones!) and bruised hips meant that two riders didn’t make the first round of nationals – fortunately Nik, who made the start line, finished in 5th place which is an amazing achievement.

Check out the Look Mum No Hands Race Team blog and the Van Dessel bikes they will be riding!

We have finally got a central location for the Van Dessel frames that we import from the US of A.  We have a gallery on the site that has pictures of Van Dessels being ridden on the UK scene, including the Look Mum No Hands race team.

In the near future we will have a full ecommerce site available so that you can buy new products directly from the site.

Bearded Man

On the 2nd July the Black Mountains 3 Day was unfortunate enough to have thieves help themselves to a bunch of bikes.  Whilst some of the riders had full insurance payouts others didn’t – this is where Santa Cruz stepped in to help.  Dickon who heads up Santa Cruz UK offered a significantly reduced price to replace riders bikes – 2 of which were Santa Cruz’s.  Bearded Man cannot begin to express how grateful we are to everyone at  Santa Cruz UK for this generosity and quick response in replacing these bikes.

Bearded Man will support Santa Cruz UK whenever possible – also at future events and promotions we will try and get them involved in which ever way we can.

In the meantime why don’t you check out the deals on the remaining few demo bikes – some amazing prices and amazing machines – click here to find out more.

If lactic acid isn’t setting your legs on fire, the embrocation better be. Face it, cyclocross is a cruel mistress, and she wants to make you hurt. Enter the Full Tilt Boogie, all-carbon, rock solid and agile as a cat, with the tried-and-true racing geometry of the ever popular Gin & Trombones. But be warned, it can’t make the pain go away. Think about it, you can’t ride faster than pain. You can only ride faster—and love the pain. That or take up bowling!

And get this, it can even run a belt drive. All the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot awaits is you with all your bike-loving quirkiness.

So go ahead, express yourself.

Geometry is dialed so you can use drop bar or flat bars. Our proven (= been using it with great success for ten years) creak and hassle free four-bolt EBB setup also has a centered BB30 adapter available for those who want to get modern with a geared BB30 setup.

Fast becoming a fave of the cross crowd – and just plain fast – the Gin & Trombones has its roots in the hardcore cross scene in Belgium. But it’s also earned its place on race podiums in the U.S. of A. For those of you who think racing really starts in September, this has all the mud clearance you need, even for the sloppy axle-deep North of England courses, plus a lower center of gravity for better stability. And thanks to the carbon seat stays and oversized chainstays, you get a smooth ride with the snappy acceleration you would expect to find only in a road bike.

RRP for frameset (frame/fork/headset) – £740 (in stock 54cm, 56cm and 58cm)
